On December 7th, in accordance with the Government Program, the Finnish Government made public their action plan to examine the state of transatlantic cooperation and set goals for collaboration in a range of objectives including the environment and energy industries for Canada and the United States.
The Canadian component of the plan is titled Finland and Canada Northern Partners Finland’s Canada Action Plan. The document outlines cooperation at the federal and provincial levels – highlighting the importance of Canada’s provinces and their sole or significant jurisdiction over energy, environmental policy, health care and education. Diverse opportunities of cooperation are outlined in the document, with the energy identified as one of the most promising commercial sectors. Canada rated high among the most interesting new markets in Finpro’s survey of companies in the spring of 2011 and Finnish companies are becoming more interested in doing business with Canadian companies.
Canadian District Energy Association expressed willingness to cooperate with Finland and to promote Finnish technology-based projects in Canada. The outlined vision of collaboration is one where Finnish companies are supported in their efforts to succeed in the commercial opportunities of the energy sector; and, where Finnish companies actively seek export and cooperation opportunities in the areas of renewable energy, decentralized energy production and district heating technology in Canada. Representatives from Finland are expected to participate at the 17th annual CDEA District Energy conference that is to take place in Ottawa on June 13 – 15th, 2012. To learn more, click here.
